The Ozone Basics

Due to the fact that ozone reverts to oxygen over a short period of time, it cannot be stored in tanks. As a result, ozone is produced on site by an ozone generator.

Ozone generators produce ozone by adding energy to oxygen molecules, resulting in oxygen molecules splitting into individual oxygen atoms. The atoms then temporarily bond with other oxygen molecules, thus creating ozone.

Ozone in Nature

Ozone is being naturally produced constantly, all over our planet. It's created when oxygen molecules come in contact with lightning, or with UV light from the sun.

As ultra violet light particles bombard oxygen molecules, the oxygen splits into individual oxygen atoms, which then go on to bond with other oxygen molecules, forming ozone.

How Oxidation Works

  3. An oxidative burst occurs as ozone collides with the cell wall, creating a hole in the bacteria's armor.
  4. The hole in the cell wall weakens the bacteria.
  5. As more ozone molecules collide with the cell, more holes are created.
  6. After thousands of collisions over a matter of seconds, the bacteria can no longer hold its' shape, and it dies.

Ozone is Effective
